Doris Jean Embry, 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2020. She was born on September 26, 1929 to Kenneth and Hazel Lane in Evansville, Indiana.
Doris was an amazing musician. She played the saxophone and sang locally in Evansville. Her love for music began at Central High School and grew to become her main passion and profession. Doris worked at Sam’s Tavern, Holiday Inn, and Snap Photo. She enjoyed playing cards, her favorites being clabber and canasta. She also enjoyed watching westerns. She loved her animals Lilly the cat, Mother the cat, Lady the dog, and Sandy the dog. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and friends; most importantly she loved visiting her grandparents as often as she could.
Doris is survived by her children Sheila (Steve) Shofstall, Vicky (Bill) Barnes, and Lisa Embry; her grandchildren William “Skeeter” (Rachel) Barnes Jr. and Chasity Chumbley; her great-grandchildren Jaiehlyn Chumbley, Heighdyn Chumbley, Frankie Miller, Ahbree Chumbley, Coraline Barnes, and Mary Ann Barnes; her grand-dog Sophie; and her brother Kenneth Lane Jr.; and her step-daughter in law Juda Embry.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Hazel Lane; her stepfather Jesse Ditterline; the love of her life Shelby Embry Sr.; and her step-sons Shelby Gene Embry, Ronald “Butch” Embry, Shelby S. Embry Jr., and Melvin Embry.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 19th at Sunset Funeral Home with a burial to directly follow at Sunset Mausoleum.
