John Franklin Odom, 62 passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife at his side, on July 8, 2023. John was born on October 25, 1960, in Monticello, Florida, unto Julius Franklin Odom and Ruby Lacy.

John grew up in Arcadia, Florida. While living in Florida, there was one day in particular, that changed his life forever. John went out with his buddies one evening to play pool at a local pub. That was the night that his Sugar walked in the door. The moment their eyes met; the pair knew that they were each other’s forever. John moved back to Evansville with Elizabeth, and they made a home together for themselves. John has worked at David Enterprises for over 23 years as a heavy equipment operator. After so many years with the company, they have become family to him. He then retired in October of 2022. John enjoyed many other things outside of work as well. He liked to go hunting and doing archery shooting but gave up hunting for the love of archery as a sport. He went to many shoots and even made some of his own bows and gave them to his friends. John was very comical and funny, his specialty, however, was his dad jokes. He also enjoyed listening to classic country music. John was a caring and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather. He’ll be in the hearts of those that loved him forever.

John is survived by the love of his life of 29 years, Elizabeth Odom; his daughters, Heather Pate and Taylor Odom; his son, Johnny Odom; and his most precious grandchildren who called him Poppi, Alexandria, Malakai, Zaila, and Skyler; his half-sister, Jerri Lynn Emrick; his stepbrothers, Kenny Oliphant and Mike Dease; his stepsister, Patricia Eddy and their families from Florida; and his very close aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ruby.

The family extends a special thanks to Fred and wife Vicki, Elizabeth’s brother and sister-in-law, as well as North Park Wesleyan Church for their care and support of the family throughout this time. They also want to extend extreme gratitude and thanks to the Deaconess Linda White Hospice for their excellent care of John through this journey.

Sunset Funeral Home will be holding services for John on July 13, 2023. Visitation will begin at 1pm, with the service to follow at 3pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.
