Joyce Kathleen Slatton Bollinger, 83, of Newburgh, Indiana passed away Wednesday August 24th, 2022 at her residence. Joyce was born in Evansville, Indiana on September 1st, 1938, to the late Dr. Rev Floyd and Leona Nation Kirves.
Joyce was a 1956 graduate of Bosse High School and went on to graduate from Oakland City College. She retired from being an English teacher at Carlisle Elementary and Junior High School in Carlisle, Indiana. She was a member of Evansville General Baptist Church.
Joyce was deeply passionate about her work as an educator. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, proving to be the most genuine and loyal friend. Joyce was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family, always the life of the party. She was a woman of many loves; She was an avid animal lover, played piano for her church, she could sew whatever may have been needed, and was a talented writer. She had a column in the Sullivan Daily Times in Sullivan, Indiana and wrote two books. Throughout her life, Joyce proved to be a devoted and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother, and friend in every way possible.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Jack Kirves and Ronald Kirves), sister (Kathleen Kirves Reynolds) and her husband’s Don Slatton (August 24th, 1991) and Bobby Bollinger (October 7th, 2020).
Survivors include daughter Michele Slatton Abrams, granddaughter Ashton Michele Abrams, stepdaughter Judy Basham, step grandchildren Steven (Dawn) Stuart and Brandi (Jeremy) Clifford, her brother Floyd Kirves Jr. and sister-in-law Beverly Kirves. She is also survived by step great grandchildren Trinton, Haeden, and Jaxon along with many other relatives and friends
Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at 1pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
