Kathleen Ray Dowdle left this Earth and took her rightful and everlasting place in the hearts and minds of the countless lives she touched the evening of Wednesday, December 28th. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, writer and poet: she embodied many roles during her 64 years, but in her essence, she was a nurturer for everyone that knew her: selflessly offering kind words, encouragement, and love boundlessly.

Born October 4th, 1958 to Calvin Ray Snodgrass and Dorothy Snodgrass, Kathy went on to graduate from North High School, soon after bringing son Randall J. Tieken Jr. and later daughter Amy M. Tieken with father Randall Tieken Sr.

In her mid 20s she met Daniel K. Dowdle who would become the love of her life. They were married soon after in the June of 1983 and together brought Dereck J. Dowdle into the world on October 4th, 1984, a day she would often recall as the most difficult yet fruitful birthday ever.

Along with being an amazing mother and wife, Kathy extended her compassion for children by managing a free daycare for those in need at St. Anthony’s Church in Evansville for three years, touching the lives of countless families in the process.

Her true passion outside of family life, however, was writing poetry and short stories. Her poignant, often introspective writing delighted all she shared her works with, and her family is eager to discover the trove of words she had left behind unpublished upon her passing.

Although her family grieves immensely for her passing, we are unspeakably grateful to have been a part of her life and will forever hold the memories we shared close to our hearts.

Upon her passing, Kathy left behind her husband Daniel Dowdle, mother Dorothy Johnson, brother Ron Snodgrass, oldest son Randall Tieken, daughter Amy Tieken, son Dereck Dowdle, step-daughter Jacey Dowdle, grandsons Dakota Boyle, Dustin Boyle, Wesley McCutcheon and Devon Dowdle as well as granddaughter Raylynn Schmitt.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be on Sunday, January 15th from 2pm – 4pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor can be made to Autism Evansville or Challenger League baseball.
