April 11, 2020 at 4:43 pmSandra and Phyllis. I am your mothers cousin, her Aunt Retta’s daughter. Your parents use to come back to Selvin for our reunion at Yellow Banks. I had not heard from her for a while and did not know your Dad passed also. You have my sympathy. Mary Lee was always a favorite of mine. I remember when she and Charlie started going together, I was upset cause when he would come with her to visit with Uncle Curtis, I felt left out. Before she use to pay attention to me, but that was before Charlie! We use to laugh at that after I grew up. Now there are only 4 cousins left, Uncle Wallace’s two sons Don and Larry and his daughter Sharon and me. Family getting smaller. Sharon’s husband died a month or so ago. I live between Bloomington and Bloomfied. I had been thinking of you guys and had my daughter look up her name on computer and found she had just passed this week. I called and told Sharon. Mary Lee Day, 93, passed away at home on April 8, 2020. She was born on May 12, 1926 to Curtis D. and Elsie (Young) Cooper in Evansville, Indiana.
Mary was a graduate of Reitz High School. For 35 years, Mary worked for FW Means and Company which is now Aramark. She worked in the office and became an Office Manager. After she retired, she and her husband Charles, bought a tavern called The Original Hob Nob Bar from 1985-2001. Mary was an avid reader, her favorites being romance novels. She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and playing clabber. She especially enjoyed playing clabber once a month with good friends. Mary also was a member of Riverbend, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Eagles. She loved to travel, her favorite place to travel was Florida. Mary loved spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her daughters Sandra Raper and Phyllis Day of Evansville; her grandson Charles (Stacie) Raper; and her granddaughter Jourdan Day (Jordan Masterson).
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Charles E. Day; her parents; her sister Mae Louise Cooper Collins Williams; and her brother Grant D. Cooper.
On her request, there is no viewing, and services will be private at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.sunsetevansville.com.
