August 25, 2021 at 5:31 pmI have known Woodie a very long time. I used to live a few blocks away in Boxtown from the Wires house. I was friends with the family and us kids would run the neighborhood together. I became best friends with her nephew and met more of the family in later years. I ended up getting married to her lovely daughter Celesta after years of trying to get a date. Woodie would always put her children ahead of herself. She taught us all valuable lessons on life we will never forget. I will miss her coming to our house to visit, the jokes, and the happy times we all had. I have a empty spot in my heart that I must refill with the memories of this great woman. She raised her children and all of us family, never once made us feel worthless. She always looked at the bright side of life and wanted us all to be happy. The happiest times I remember is going to Waffle House with the entire family. Woodie had her own booth that was “unofficially” reserved for her.
I always thought that Woodie would outlive us all. She was tough as nails and never “tried” anything. She just done it.
