I knew Mr. Lenko back in the 1970s when I lived in southern Indiana. I remember him as a friendly neighbor and a very good father (I considered Tom a good friend and classmate). I’m sorry for your loss.

Joseph “Joe” Lenko, Jr. of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2023, at the age of 85.

He was born on December 17, 1937, to the late Nedia and Joseph Lenko in New York City, New York. He served as an Airman Second Class in the US Air Force for 8 years and was honorably discharged on July 10, 1963. Joe went on to work for Alcoa Aluminum where he retired after 35 years of service.

Joe never met a stranger; he made friends everywhere he went and always left a lasting impression. It wasn’t unusual for him to be traveling and run into someone he knew from his days of living in New York City and regardless of who it was, they would pick right up where they left off. He had a kind spirit and a loving heart; he will be missed by many.

Joe was preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Nedia, sister Rosemary Schnell and stepson Michael Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Ruth Lenko; son Tom (Diane) Lenko; stepsons Wes (Joann) Mitchell and Ted (Angel) Mitchell; stepdaughters Kay (Bruce) Arbeiter and Cheryl (John) Najvar; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and his puggle K. C.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at 12 pm on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice and the at-home care team for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Joes name to Heart-to-Heart 610 Walnut St. Evansville, IN 47713.
