Michael Leroy Johnson, 72, passed away on March 14, 2020. He was born on August 28, 1947 to Leroy and Clara Johnson in Newburgh, Indiana.

Michael was a military relics and memorabilia dealer from age 15. Michael was a proud member of the Patriot Guard since 2005, the VFW in Boonville and, the Sons of the American Legion Post 44. Michael worked for Alcoa for 30 years. He was a Commissioner for Clan Grant Society. He also loved collecting and riding motorcycles. He was also a historian. He portrayed Captain Adam Rankin Johnson in Civil War Reenactments and for the Newburgh Ghost Walks for several years. Michael was also a Kentucky Colonial, a Son of the Confederacy, and an honorary Wild Goose. Michael absolutely loved sunsets. He tried to see as many sunsets as he could.

Michael is survived by his wife Vicki Johnson; his son Morgan Johnson (Sadie Smith); and his step-daughter Sarah Bickett.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Clara Johnson and his sister Linda Johnson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20^th at Sunset Funeral Home with a burial to directly follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Mike was a funny, warm, and great guy. He was a fixture of the Diamond Flea Market, where we both set up as vendors, and everyone if us regulars there thought the world of him. His presence will truly be missed, but we will never forget him. Rest in peace, Mike.

  Michael was a stalwart member of the Evansville Military Collectors Club. His love of history allowed him to spend hours connecting with others throughout the US. We will miss his unique ability to find military collectibles and bring them to Club meetings to share with others.

I will miss Mike a great deal, we have been friends for the last 35 years. I loved going by the Flea market to see what kind of historical treasures he had brought in to sell.
I will miss hearing his many stories of his experiences and his knowledge of the items that he had.
Over the years we had bought, sold and traded countless items. There are many wonderful items in my collection that I have obtained from Mike.
I will miss Mike, our dealings and our friendship.

I got to know Mike a few years ago when I spent time in the Newburgh area. Although he had a tough time walking, he took me on a historical walk describing the raid of 1862 -Great stuff.! We shared a love for historical truth, that many don’t .
I looked forward to another visit with him,but that won’t happen now.
