Tommie Lou Powell, 77, went to her heavenly home on July 31, 2023. She was born on October 23, 1945, to Thomas T. Sims and Jean (Roy) Sims in Bessemer, Alabama.
Tommie was an amazing wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and devout Christian. Tommie put Christ at the center of her life and was one of the Lord’s greatest ambassadors for love and kindness. Tommie had the biggest heart for others. She enjoyed spending time surrounded by her loved ones.
Tommie is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Jimmie Powell; children Mark Vanderveer, Alan Vanderveer, Debra Powell, and Teresa Kidd; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends Bob, Rita, and Leslie Wheeler; and numerous extended family.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents Thomas T. Sims and Jean Sims, and sister Angie Scott.
Services will be private.
