Over the years we have shared so many stories. She was a very special friend.

I especially loved the times when Mom, Aunt Sue and Aunt Nean were together as the harmony of their voices in song, would fill the room, and bring goosebumps all over, what sweet sweet sounds. August 10, 2023 at 9:48 pmI have to say that Aunt Nean’s shirt pretty much says it all. She always had a great sense of humor that could sometimes go right to the edge. Mona, Brett, and Laura – I’m very sorry for your loss. I included a picture of the Haynie girls – I’ll bet they’re having a hoot.

Candis Jeanine Halsey (Haynie) was known as “CJ” by those who knew her. Those that loved her called her mom, Nene, Jeanine, Nana, and Grandma. But no one called her “Candy”.
CJ loved music, singing, movies, theatre, and books. Road trips with her always included harmonizing and playing the alphabet game. She was famous for her back, neck, and shoulder massages. She was the “FUN” mom.
CJ attended both Reitz and North High School. She was involved with both theatre and choir. She attended class reunions for both schools.
She graduated from IUPUI and worked in the medical field for over 42 years. She was a Respiratory Therapist and later a Sleep Lab Technician. She loved to work in the NICU and the children’s ward in the Grand Rapids, MI area.
Upon retiring in 2006, she returned to Evansville, IN to be closer to her family. Her declining health caused her to move into assisted living this past year. Her family was able to visit with her often.
CJ passed away in Hospice on her 83rd birthday attended by her family.
CJ is survived by her stepmother Sue Horn, and her children Mona Nally, Bret McCutchan, and Laura Padgett. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jaimie DeGraff, Tamara Tallman, Karlie Padgett, Paige Padgett; great-grandchildren Garland VI, Brodie, and Evan Tallman, and extended family Tara McInnis and children Lyndy, Michael, and Jon and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at 12 pm on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home with a burial to directly follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
